Hidden in a secluded walled garden, this luxurious self contained guest house is both the ideal romantic getaway and a relaxing haven for the business traveller. Set back from Venice Beach on a quiet residential street, our guests enjoy both proximity to one of the world's favorite hotspots and the tranquil privacy of this home  away from home. THE GUEST HOUSE

The guest house is a suite comprising a bedroom, a bathroom with ground to ceiling windows and a large front room with full kitchen facilities. Room length picture windows open out for the ultimate SoCal indoor/outdoor experience  There  is a front deck with lounge chairs overlooking the garden and a small private rear deck with breakfast seating for two.

The garden features a Koi pond and many native plants to encourage butterflies and hummingbirds.

GENERAL INFORMATION

There is ample and free street parking and the neighborhood is quiet and residential. Parking in the driveway may be possible for loading and unloading. Ride sharing services are plentiful in the area, as well as local electric bike and scooter rentals available through their apps.

The beach is approx. 12 minutes away, LAX is about 15-20 mins depending on time of day and traffic. Abbott Kinney Blvd with its fashionable shops, restaurants and bars is a 12 minute walk. Penmar Golf Course is three blocks away. Several supermarkets / Drug Stores (Including Whole Foods) are also a short distance away.

There is bus service three blocks away and a local shuttle service to the nearest Metro stations that link to Downtown Los Angeles and beyond.

We welcome everyone regardless of race, religion or sex. Because of the proximity of the pond however, our guest house is not suitable for small children.Sorry, no pets.

We endeavor to be as environmentally friendly as possible both inside and out so we invite you to join us by remembering to switch off air conditioning/ heating and lights when you exit the building.

​

Strictly no smoking inside.

We have a two day minimum stay.
Stays of two to 7 days require one cleaning visit . Longer stays require one cleaning every 7 days. Cleaning is for guest house only (general, sheets, towels, etc) and excludes personal effects.  Washer and dryer for personal items are available on site and are free to use.Each cleaning fee is $75.

The Beach

 

Santa Monica Bay offers over 30 miles of sandy beaches with a bike path. Venice Boardwalk, Muscle Beach and Santa Monica Pier are popular people watching attractions.Go surfing (or watch others) and boogie board in the warm waters of the Bay. Watch the dolphins cruise by and maybe the occasional whale will visit.

Cultural Sites

 

The Los Angeles area has a myriad of  Arts and Culture venues, such as LACMA, MOCA, the Getty Center and Getty Villa, Norton Simon Museum, The Broad, Disney Hall and world class theaters such as the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

Nature

 

Hike in the Santa Monica Mountains, explore the Los Angeles National Forest or spend the day in the gardens of the Huntingdon Library. Go horseback riding in Griffith Park or picnic in Malibu Creek State Park- these are just a few of the choices on offer.

Leisure Activities

 

Being the 'Movie Capital' of the world, Los Angeles has many studio tours and other activities to do. Griffith Observatory is worth a visit and you can catch basketball, hockey and baseball at LALive and Dodger stadium. There are many Art Districts throughout the area and music venues large and small abound. Los Angeles is also a Foodie's heaven !.

Derek Rath is a renowned musicologist and writer/broadcaster, as well as having a 30 year career as an architectural photographer. He came to California from sunny England and never looked back. His wife Sylvia is a preschool director and she and their dog Harpo are the real brains in the venture.
